When to use Aptamil® AR

Aptamil® AR is a specially developed thickened infant formula for formula-fed babies with regurgitation or mild reflux, suitable from birth onwards.

  • AR is not suitable for general use or for infants with a confirmed cows' milk protein allergy or lactose intolerance and should only be used under medical supervision
  • If your infant is unresponsive to the formula, a full medical investigation is recommended

About Aptamil® AR

  • Aptamil® AR infant formula has been specially formulated for babies with regurgitation or mild reflux
  • Clinical trials show Aptamil® AR to be effective with the dietary management of infant regurgitation1
  • Aptamil® AR infant formula may assist in the nutritional support and management of regurgitation or mild reflux in formula-fed infants. The ingredients in Aptamil® AR have been shown to be effective in the dietary management of regurgitation2:
    • Regurgitation and mild reflux often affects infants and is commonly attributed to the immaturity of the digestive system
    • Most cases of regurgitation will resolve at or before 6 months of age as the digestive muscles become stronger
  • Carob bean gum is used to thicken Aptamil® AR. Its advantage is that the gum remains thick in the mouth and continues to thicken further in the stomach and it has been shown to reduce the incidence and severity of regurgitation episodes2. By contrast, products containing a starch thickener can be broken down by enzymes in saliva and more quickly in the stomach
  • A medium to fast flow teat is recommended when using Aptamil® AR unless otherwise advised by your healthcare professional.

Our easy-to-follow guide shows you how to prepare a feed safely using our powder formula.

Bt -1

  • Wipe clean all surfaces and wash your hands before preparing a feed.
  • Wash and sterilise bottles and teats or sipper cups thoroughly by boiling or using an approved steriliser.

Bt -2

  • Boil safe drinking water and leave to cool.
  • Measure the required amount of cooled boiled water  into a sterilised bottle or sipper cup. Warm to feeding temperature.

B 3-2

  • For accurate amount, use only the scoop provided and level off powder with the built-in leveller.
  • Do not press extra powder into the scoop.

Bt -4

  • Add the correct measure of powder to water.
  • Adding too many or too few scoops can be harmful.
  • The feeding guide on the pack will give you an indication of the number of feeds your baby may need per day.
  • Always add one level scoop of powder for each 50mL of water.

Bt -5

  • Screw the cap on the bottle or sipper cup and shake well to dissolve the powder.
  • Test the temperature of the formula by allowing some drops to fall on your wrist. If it feels comfortable, it should be just right for your baby.
  • A medium to fast flow teat is recommended when using Aptamil AR unless otherwise advised by your healthcare professional.

Bt -6

  • Use made-up feeds immediately.
  • Discard any leftover formula, wash bottles and teats or sipper cups and re-sterilise, ready for the next feed.
